________________________________________________________________________
Do you remember what it was like to fire up your modem and call your
local BBS? You would dutifully read all of the new messages, post
intelligent responses, upload useful files and answer any questions that
the new users might have.
Or did you have two accounts: one to download the latest files on Line 1
while you played online games (Leech, of course..) on Line 2? Maybe you
newscanned the message bases, but only because the Sysop had the
read-before-download option turned on.
If the second example sounds more like you, then Leech 2000 is your kind
of game!
The object of Leech 2000 is to crash as many other virtual BBSs and
users as possible. In other words, can you be the biggest Leech of all?
<FF>Your primary interface is the DOS prompt. A variety of commands are
available to you. The following commands are the ones you will use the
most:
CALL: Call (and hack!) one of the BBSs. Once connected, you can Trash
Files to try and take down the other BBS. You can also Upload a
Trojan Horse to do more damage or Backup Files to recover your
own megs. Finally, if things aren't going well, you can always
Drop Carrier to run away before your own hard drive is
destroyed.
HACK: Try to hack one of the other Leech players. You have the same
options as when you CALL a BBS, but this time it is another
Leech player that you are going up against. Be careful when
HACKing other Leech players. If you lose, you could lose your
software and backup method as well!
LLL: Call the Lame Local Leeches BBS. The LLL is your ally as you
move through the Leech game. They sell software and backup
methods as well as let you view information about the Leech game
and other Leeches. You can also gamble away your hard-earned
cash (not a good idea) or try and hack the LLL bank to steal
everyone's money (an even worse idea).
<FF>
Other useful commands available at the main menu are:
+/-: Transfer money to/from your LLL bank account. Hacking is risky
business and---if you are unsuccessful in your attempt--you
could lose whatever money you have on you. Always transfer your
money into the LLL bank before CALLing a BBS or HACKing another
Leech. That said, Leech players can try and hack the LLL to
steal all of the money in the bank. But if you keep your money
on you, then other plays can HACK you and take it away. Nothing
is perfect...
UE: Restore lost megs. Megs get more expensive to recover as you go
up in level, so a good backup system is a must!
STATUS: Prints your in-game statistics.
FORMAT: Erases your Leech account and puts you back at Level 1.
QUIT: Exits the game. You can only play Leech a certain number of
times per day, so make the most of each play!
<FF>Important Notes:
* The BBS List is organized according to the number of hard disks that
the BBS has. BBSs with higher numbers will be more difficult to
crash (but will also have more money!). New users should start out
by calling the first BBS and work their way up from there. Just
remember that you can only call a limited number of BBSs each time
you play Leech, so make each call count.
* Protect yourself by buying backup software. The better your backup
software, the longer you can hold out against an attack. Of course,
having good software helps too...
* This is a classic BBS game that spoofs BBSing and BBS users. It
promotes questionable behavior---destructive hacking--but in the
end, it is only a game. Please do not take this game seriously and
do not try and hack real computers or real Leeches... er.. computer
users.
Have fun, and may the best Leech win!
